The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished tied for 10th at the Islander Classic on Tuesday with a 54 hole score of 972 (+108). SIU moved up one spot after shooting 319, the Salukis best round, on the final day of play. Houston Christian took first place with a score of 921 (+57) and UT Rio Grande Valley finished runner-up at 932 (+68).
"We improved each day," said SIU head women's golf coach Cindy Boomer. "That's a positive we can build upon."
Senior Secilia Ho led the Salukis, shooting 241 (+25) to finish tied for 25th place. Sophomore Kylee Vaughan fired a team-best 77 in the final round with three birdies on the day to tie for 28th place with a total mark of 242 (+26). Freshman Ella Overstreet carded 244 (+28) to finish tied for 36th place and senior Ayanna Habeel tied for 41st with a score of 246 (+30). Sophomore Morgan Gindler shot 253 (+37) to round out the Salukis scorecard.
"The team had a great experience and enjoyed the course," Bodmer added. "As a coach, I'm already analyzing what we can do better in preparation to play this course next year, but for now our focus is on the next tournament."
What's Next The Salukis travel to Huntsville, Alabama for the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate, hosted by Samford. SIU will tee off on Sunday, March 19 at Hampton Cove.
